Land and nature

Sweden has a wonderful and diverse nature. Some parts of Sweden are only thinly populated, so there are many possibilities and freedom to explore the land. You can go hiking for weeks, sailing, canoeing and see animals in the nature. Sweden has 21 provinces and can be divided into three areas: Southern, Central and Northern Sweden. They are also called: Götaland, Svealand and Norrland.  

 

 


Götaland

Götaland is know for it´s natural landscape with many diffrent types of animals. Apart from that it is also very useful for the farming. In the south of Sweden you can also find the typical Småland houses with their red facades. The provinces of Götaland are Blekinge, Bohuslän, Dalsland, Gotland, Halland, Skåne,Småland, Västergötland, Öland and Östergötland.

Svealand

Svealand lies between Götaland and Norrland and is the smallest out of the three regions.It also has to be mentioned that in Svealand lays Stockholm the capital of Sweden. The region was the orginal home of the Svear,people who give Sweden its name. Besides that it is the traditionel heart of Sweden due to its large population and agricultural resources. The provinces of Svealand are Dalarna, Närke, Södermanland, Uppland, Värmland, Västmanland.

Norrland

Norrland is the largerst and the least populated area of Sweden. There are the famous Scandinavian Mountains with several and sometimes bareley developed national parks, where you can see bears, wolves and mooses. The most nothern part of Norrland lies north of the Artic Circle and is known for the midnight sun and the polar light. The provinces of Norrland are Lappland, Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Ångermanland, Medelpad, Gästrikland, Hälsingland, Härjedalen und Jämtland.
